ALTERNATIVE
ENERGY
TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION
|
|
“Alternative
Energy”, “Renewable Energy”, “Green “Energy”. What does it all mean?
There are many developing and emerging technologies which have resulted
in a host of fine products. However, many of these products are only useful
if combined with other products. At Coffman Electrical Equipment we have
dedicated ourselves to understanding these technologies and, more importantly,
how they fit together to accomplish various projects.
Whether it be Wind, Solar, Bio-Gas Digesters, Waste Heat Cooling or several
other marvelous technologies, we have a strong knowledge of how they work
together to accomplish quality and savings in energy production.
Coffman also advises on any available funding opportunities such as grants,
utility programs and tax incentives that apply to these integrated systems.

The Mobile Micro Grid Research and Development Project was designed and developed under a Military R&D
Contract with TARDEC (US Army) for the development of a Mobile Micro Grid as center point for future Micro
Grid deployment.
These 250 and 500 kW systems have been designed to accept up to 6 different power sources concurrently
and provide a common high quality electrical output.
The power sources can be any common DC or AC voltage throughout the world and can also be wind, solar,
and other renewable energy systems for any critical or non critical power solution.
The Micro Grids are designed to run individually, in parallel with other units or with an electrical grid while
providing this power at data center grade quality.
A family of Micro Grids has also been designed to be scalable into any size application.
Coffman is currently working on multiple variations of the design while at the same time developing these
systems for commercial use for the integration of renewable energy systems into green data centers and
emergency operations.

This project is the first integration of a pre-certified Class A semi-batch digester with power production.
Designed by Coffman and Hesco Sustainable Energy, it is an integrated system where the complete digester and
generation are provided as one product. This integrated design includes controls and heat recovery. |

Two
Kawasaki 3.6 MW standby turbines at a data center in Michigan. These units
are designed to run on both diesel and natural gas with full startup in
40 seconds. These are the first Kawasaki standby turbines in a data center
in the U.S.
STEADYPOWER INITIATIVES
GREEN DATA CENTERS
At Coffman we are involved with several partners in the
design of green data centers utilizing wind, solar, high efficiency cooling,
and cogeneration/waste heat cooling. This integration can result in energy
savings of 25% – 50%.
MUNICIPAL AND SCHOOL SYSTEMS
We are also working with the EverGREEN Schools national
sustainable school initiative program. This initiative develops integrated
renewable energy and energy efficient systems combined with educational
programs for both schools and municipalities. These power generation and
waste management to energy systems include all of our technologies, and
are being designed in a modular format that can be scaled to the needs of
any municipality or school system.
